The Brandywine Bobcats had the No. 7-ranked Division 4 wrestling team on the ropes in the season opener Wednesday.

But a point here and a point there means a lot as the Bobcats unfortunately forgot in their 36-35 loss to visiting Decatur.

The Bobcats led 35-30 heading into the final bout after Chance Eberly pinned the Raiders’ Mitch Jacobs in just 41 seconds.

But Decatur still had one bullet left in its gun and it was a big one in defending state champion Hunter Bell. Bell lived up to his billing by pinning Brandon Earles in 1:05 and giving the Raiders the come-from-behind victory.

The Bobcats got off to a good start as Paul Lochmondy earned the first victory of the season with a 7-0 decision against Andy Beeching. When Chanc Ravish earned his 100th career pin, Brandywine led 9-3.

The Raiders battled back to square the match at 9-9 before Vincent Sallee returned the lead to the Bobcats with a pin of Ted Tomczak.

Decatur would tie the match with a 15-15 with a pin at 171 and would trail once again following Joe Monica’s 7-3 victory over Jason Nash at 189.

The Raiders reclaimed the lead and led 24-18 before the Bobcats got back on a roll.

Arsalan Rehman pinned Ruel Lopez in 2:33 to tie the match at 24-24 and Jesse Lochmondy gave the lead back to Brandywine with a technical fall against Gabi May.

Lujan Parrish sent the lead back into the favor of the Raiders with a pin at 119 before Eberly made it 35-30.

Brandywine took on Bronson in the second round of the evening. The Vikings defeated Covert, which wrestled Decatur in the second round.

The Bobcats fell to the Vikings 49-12.
