NILES — Marvin Gerald Bogseth, 86, of Niles, formerly of Dowagiac, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at Brentwood Assisted Living.

Marvin was born on April 9, 1926, to the late John and Amelia (Barth) Bogseth in Chicago.

He served his county proudly in the U.S. Army in World War II.

After the war, Marvin came home and met the woman who stole his heart. On June 11, 1949, he married Ella Marie Jacobsen at a ceremony in Chicago.

A hard worker all of his life, Marvin worked as a bread route salesman until he retired.

He and his wife moved from Chicago in 1973 and moved into their home, they built, on Magician Lake, in Dowagiac.

When time allowed, some of his favorite outdoor activities were golf and fishing. Marvin was also a sports enthusiast; always rooting on his Cubs, Bears and especially Blackhawks. After living locally he also became an avid Silver Hawks fan. Marvin was a devoted Mason and served as a past Master of the Blue Lodge in Chicago.

Marvin is preceded by: his parents; his wife Ella; his two brothers, Roy and Harold Bogseth; and his sisters ,Ruth Romadka and Helen Walsh.

He is survived by: his two children, Marvin (Patricia) Bogseth of Lisle, Ill., and Deborah (Mark) Vollmer of Bridgman.

He is also survived by: his four grandchildren, Kurt (Kristi) Bogseth, Steven (Molly Talkington) Bogseth, Stephanie (Jeremy Sims) Bogseth and Erin Vollmer; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marion Scardina of Arizona.

In keeping with Marvin’s wishes, a private service will be held by his family and he will be laid to rest, alongside his wife, at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek with military honors in the spring.
