Dungey

The sun rose on the life of Darrell DeWayne Dungey on Feb. 14, 1951, in South Bend, Ind., to William and Alma (Young) Dungey. He grew up and attended schools in Cassopolis, graduating in 1969 from Cassopolis High School. The sun set on him unexpectedly of natural causes on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at his residence in Niles.

Darrell worked as a design engineer for Tyler Refrigeration and Whirlpool Corporation until his retirement. He loved woodworking as evidenced by the many projects displayed throughout his residence. He enjoyed shooting billiards, playing on several local pool leagues. He was a very challenging competitor. His passion for the last two or three years was donating his time and efforts to the military veterans through the Rolling Thunder organization.

Darrell, a resident of Niles, will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by one daughter,

Darlene Geishert, of Georgia; two grandsons; two sisters, Nora (James) Lee, of Cassopolis, Barbara (Leo) Byrd, of Vandalia; one brother, Eric (Redell) Dungey, of Daytona Beach, Fla.; only surviving aunt Nancy Dungey-Mitchem; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends; and his loyal pet companion Abigail Marie, “Abby.”

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Larry E. Dungey and Phillip M. Dungey.

Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 North Broadway St., Cassopolis.

The funeral service will be Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at 1 p.m. in the funeral home.
