Gary Burks, 64, of Niles, died at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at his home in Niles.

He was born on April 2, 1948, in Niles to Thelbert and Goldie May (Lacey) Burks. He worked at Clark Food Service for more than 30 years, until the plant closed in 2008.  He enjoyed listening to and collecting very old music. He also enjoyed fishing.

On Jan. 23, 1967, in Niles, he married the former Shirley Kay Hulett, with whom he celebrated his 45th wedding anniversary prior to his death. Gary was very dedicated to his loving wife.

Surviving family also includes their children, Bonnie Rouch, of Niles, Gary (and Terri) Burks Jr., of Edwardsburg, and Timothy Burks of Vandalia; grandchildren, Melonie Duncan, of Edgewater, Fla., Russell (and Candyce) Rousey, of Niles, Cierra Burks, of Edwardsburg, and Alex Rouch, of Niles; great-grandchildren, Jada and Mia, of Edgewater, and Olivia and Airalyn, of Niles; Gary’s mother, Goldie; brothers, Ray Burks, of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Lenard (and Julia) Burks, of Niles; Shirley’s brothers, Vernon Hulett, of Niles, David Hulett of Brownsville, Texas; Shirley’s sisters, Beverly Plew, of Niles, and Sharron (and John) McElroy of Providence, Ky.; and Gary’s dog, Fritz, a German sheperd.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Thelbert, and a sister-in-law, Darlene Hulett.
