Brandywine Middle/Senior High School, 2428 S. 13th St. in Niles, will be performing the popular Broadway musical “Annie” at Brandywine Elementary School at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday and at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday.

Reserved seating is $5, while general seating is $3 for adults and $2 for students, children and senior citizens.

The musical centers on the life of Annie, a young red-headed orphan girl who decides to run away from her abusive orphanage matron and find her parents. Annie — played by senior Tai Johnson — eventually meets billionaire Daddy Warbucks — played by senior Collin Mattiford — who helps Annie search for her missing parents.

“It’s been crazy, but fun because this is my first lead and probably the biggest performance I’ve had,” Johnson said.

The musical is based on the Harold Gray comic strip “Little Orphan Annie” and features many popular songs, including “Tomorrow” and “It’s the Hard-Knock Life.”

The original Broadway production opened in 1977 and ran for nearly six years. It contains music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin.

“There are great songs and great dancing,” Mattiford said.

Senior Jessica Blank, who plays Grace, said she is excited about having a big role in her final high school musical.

“We’ve been looking forward to it being our senior year and it finally being our year to set an example for the rest of the school,” Blank said.
