A World War II Woman Airforce Service Pilot (WASP) will be the guest speaker during the American Legion Post 51’s Veterans Day program Saturday.

Bernice “Bee” Falky Haydu is scheduled to speak at 11 a.m. The post is located at 403 E. Front St., Buchanan.

Haydu served as WASP president from 1975-78 and led the fight in U.S. Congress to recognize WASPs as veterans of World War II.

In 2000, Bee was inducted into the Aviation Hall of Fame in Teterboro, N.J., and … her original uniform is on display in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.

In March, she was inducted into Women In Aviation International Hall of Fame.

She and other members of WASP were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 2010. Bee witnessed President Obama sign the bill into law July 1, 2009.

She has written a book, “LEITERSHOME 1944-1945” based on letters her mother had saved. Her website is www.wasplettershome.com.
