Cobb upsets Warren for Cass Commissioner seat

Dowagiac school board incumbents were losing to challengers, while Democratic County Commissioner Clark Cobb upset Cass County Board of Commissioners Chair Minnie Macon Warren in Tuesday’s general election.

Ruth Ausra was leading school voting with 2,684; Larry Schmidt, 2,001, for two seats, with incumbents Mark Dobberstein (1,172) and Stacy Leversen (1,129) trailing.

Cobb garnered 1,666 ballots to 1,100 for Warren, who switched parties to the GOP, as the county board shrinks from 15 members to seven through redistricting.

Roseann Marchetti, R-Edwardsburg, retained her seat, 1,911-1,304, despite a challenge by former commissioner David Taylor.

Republican Dixie Ann File defeated Marcellus Democrat Burke Webb, 1,886-1,083.

Former chairman Robert Wagel, R-Wayne Township, prevailed over Democrat James Jerue, 1,490-1,041.

Former Jefferson Township supervisor and county emergency preparedness coordinator Bernie Williamson, was leading over Democrat Kevin Harris in her bid for the county board.

Water Resources Commissioner Bruce Campbell was leading Democratic challenger Tony Catanzarite, 7,540-4,691.

Treasurer Linda Irwin was up over Democratic challenger Anita Studer, 8,155-4,299.

Clerk-Register candidate Monica Kennedy was beating Democrat Ingrid Gschwind, 7,702-4,437.

Probate Judge  Susan Dobrich (8,337), Prosecuting Attorney Victor Fitz (9,456) and Sheriff Joseph Underwood (9,837) faced no opposition.
