CASSOPOLIS — Caught looking at child pornography on a public computer, a Dowagiac man is now looking at prison time.

Jeffrey Morseau, 46, was sentenced Friday in Cass County Circuit Court to a minimum of two years in the Michigan Department of Corrections.

Morseau, who received credit for 75 days served, is also required to register as a sex offender.

On three separate occasions, Morseau was observed viewing child pornography on a computer at the Pokagon Band’s Government Administration Building in June. He was also seen taking pictures of the pornographic images using a cell phone or camera.

“Possession and viewing such images is very serious,” Circuit Judge Michael Dodge said. “(It) encourages further exploitation of children in order to satisfy demand from individuals such as yourself who want to view such images.”

Morseau pleaded guilty in September to three counts of possessing child sexual abuse material as a habitual offender third. His sentencing guidelines were 10 to 34 months.

“This type of mindset and crime… Morseau needs to realize he’s likely to have this problem the rest of his life and he needs to find some way to suppress it, to control it, to make sure it doesn’t happen again,” Prosecutor Victor Fitz said.

Morseau’s criminal record includes two burglary convictions and one breaking and entering conviction.

Morseau’s attorney, Lawrence Quigley, said his client had an abusive childhood.
