In the spring of 1988, DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince gave us the single “Parents Just Don’t Understand.” The Cassopolis Thespian Troupe 2323 will give us 10 reasons why.

The troupe will present its fall play, “Parents Just Don’t Understand” Nov. 9-11 at Cassopolis Ross Beatty High School. The curtain goes up at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 and Nov. 10 with a matinee Nov. 11 at 2 p.m.

Cost is $5 for general admission and $4 for students and senior citizens.

According to director Jean Porath, “Parents Just Don’t Understand” is 10 different skits that highlight the interaction between parents and their teenagers.

“It shows the typical interaction and the frustration of both the parents and the teens,” Porath said.

Among the skits are one about a father teaching his teenage daughter how to drive a car. Another shows a father having “the talk” with his son.

Porath also said the one about Thanksgiving where the father burned down the garage and the family has to go out for dinner is very funny.

While this is an ensemble production with no individual characters, there are two members of the troupe that Porath made mention of.

Thomas Bosler and Chandler Kraus have been performing with the troupe since they were in fifth grade. The two thespians are now juniors.
