Lori, GOP majority, turned state around

To the editor:

I support Rep. Matt Lori and the plan he has helped craft to continue our state’s economic recovery. He has done the right thing and voted in favor of tough reforms to repair the past damage done by a decade of ignoring the problems facing our state.

Rep. Lori and the Republican majority have, in the course of two years, turned a $1.5 billion deficit into a budget surplus.

When he took office there was hardly enough money in the Rainy Day Fund to keep the state operating for 30 minutes.

Thanks to Matt Lori and his GOP colleagues taking fiscal responsibility, the fund now has a healthy balance to last more than just a half hour of a rainy day.

In the last two years some 120,000 new jobs have been created in Michigan because Matt and his colleagues took action necessary to make Michigan a state in which businesses can flourish. Michigan’s unemployment rate has dropped from nearly 11 percent in January 2010 to 9.4 percent today. Matt’s actions are putting Michigan back to work, and laying down a good economic base so that our children and grandchildren will be able to find good jobs in the years to come.

I have witnessed firsthand how Matt is committed to bringing new business and jobs to our community.

Without Matt’s help and support, Cobalt Holdings LLC and the 50+ jobs it created would not have happened. Matt truly cares about retaining existing business as well as developing new ones.

There is still a lot of work to be done, and Matt Lori has a viable plan that will enable Michigan to continue its path to recovery.

I urge you to vote for Matt Lori on Nov. 6.
