Niles High School will be hosting a walk to benefit hearing-impaired students this weekend at the high school track.

The Hear 2 Help walk, 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, was created and organized by Niles High Senior Haley Helt, whose 6-year-old sister, Sara Pawlak, is deaf in both ears.

Suggested donation is $5. All proceeds will benefit the hearing-impaired programs offered by Berrien Springs Public Schools.

“We have a relay for life walk at the school, so I thought why can’t we do a walk for the hearing impaired at the school,” Helt said. “It is a great way to help out.”

Helt said her sister is enrolled in the hearing-impaired programs at Berrien Springs Public Schools.

“They (Berrien Springs Public Schools) don’t have enough money through school to buy all their equipment, so I wanted to do something to raise more money for them,” she said.

Participants can walk around the track as long as they want. Although organizers are asking for a $5 donation, any amount will be accepted.

Drinks and snacks will be available.
