Jule Cannon Jr., 93, of Vandalia, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at Lakeland Health Care Center, Niles.

He was born June 22, 1919, in Pineapple, Alabama. He married Elizabeth Mae Sutton in Chicago. She preceded him in death Nov. 18, 1997. He was also preceded by his parents and one son, Rudy Cannon.

Jule was a member of Calvin Center Seventh Day Adventist Church where he was known as the “CandyMan.” He had been a long time usher. He enjoyed sports, especially football. He was a movie buff and was known for his knowledge of old movies. He loved cooking outdoors for family and friends.

Jule will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by one step-son, James Sutton of Chicago; two grandchildren, Kimberly Brown of Atlanta, Ga., and Victor Sutton of Huntsville, Ala.; eight great-grandchildren, Darrian Brown, Darrius Sutton, Dillon Sutton, Tyler Sutton, Victor Sutton, Victoria Sutton, Crystal Sutton, Sydney Sutton; a host of nieces and nephews, including nieces Daisy Hervey of Vandalia, Georgia Yarbrough of Vandalia, and the niece that he helped raise, Shonta Johnson of Vandalia; many cousins, including Alma Roberson of Cassopolis; and a very close friend of the family and faithful neighbor, Ruby Eddings. Also mourning his passing is Dawn (Gabe) Moore, of Elkhart, and Frankie (Lewis) Jackson, of Vandalia, and their families, who always called him “Grandpop.”

Family and friends will gather from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 N. Broadway St., Cassopolis, with Elder Imasiku Mubita officiating. Mr. Cannon will be laid to rest next to his wife in Oakdale Cemetery, Vandalia.
