Jesse J. West, 97, of White Oak Road in Lawton and formerly of Eagle Lake in Paw Paw, passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at White Oaks Assisted Living Center in Lawton.

Jesse was born Nov. 13, 1914, to the late Glen and Estella (Mapes) West.

He married Ruth Matthews, and to that union was born William West. Ruth passed in 1949. On Oct. 2, 1950, Jesse wed Marion Davis at a beautiful ceremony in Niles.
Jesse, along with his wife, Marion, owned West Grocery Store and opened West Variety Store in Niles. When they decided to retire, they closed down the businesses. They retired to Eagle Lake in Paw Paw for their summers and Jupiter, Fla., for their winters. He enjoyed fishing and traveling. One thing Jesse fully enjoyed was becoming a shuffleboard champion with Marion on the east coast of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marion; two siblings, Genevieve Booth and Todd DeMeulenaere; and a brother, Fred West.

Jesse is survived by children, Bill (Pat) West of Apache Junction, Ariz., Nancy (Paul) Davis-Nutt of London, Ohio, Lazell (Evelyn) Davis of Niles, Phyllis Kearney of Paw Paw, Donna (Fred) Krieger of Venice, Fla.; and 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A time of visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 18, at noon at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel, where the funeral service will follow at 1 p.m.
