Bridgman and Buchanan came away with Lakeland Conference cross country titles at Brandywine High School Monday.

The Bees, who had the top two finishers, ended up with 26 points, while the Bobcats, who had three of the top five finishers, finished with 41 points. Buchanan was third and Cassopolis fourth.

Cameron Bredice of Bridgman was the conference champion with a time of 17:10.

Brandywine’s Michael Robbins, James Harrell and Collin Mattiford finished third, fourth and fifth with times of 18:41, 18:47 and 18:52 respectively.

“We have been strong up front,” Brandywine coach Jim Murray said. “Collin just missed qualifying for regionals last year. Michael was out half the season with injuries. We thought we could be pretty good up front if we could just come up with depth we could be competitive. James came on as a freshman and did a real good job.”

Bridgman also grabbed the top two spots in the girls race, but Buchanan was the only school with a full team.

The Bucks won a modified scoring result with 25 points. Bridgman was second with 45 and Cassopolis third with 58. Brandywine was fourth with 105 points.

The Bees’ Mary Wheeler was the individual champion with a time of 22:01.

Buchanan claimed fourth through eighth place to earn the title. Coryn Kaiser led the Bucks with a third place finish and a time of 23:54.
