A Buchanan Township man was charged with drug crimes after several law enforcement agencies executed a search warrant at his home Friday afternoon.

Trent Britton, 40, of 15382 Main St., is charged with possession of heroin wit intent to deliver 2nd offense; possession of cocaine 2nd offense; maintaining a drug house 2nd offense; and smuggling contraband into a jail/prison.

According to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department, its narcotics unit, with assistance from the road patrol, criminal investigation unit, FBI and Buchanan Police Department, executed a search warrant for illegal narcotics at 3:30 p.m. Friday.

This search warrant execution was the result of a two-week long investigation conducted by the Berrien County Sheriff Department’s Narcotics Unit, which began after members of the Buchanan Police Department received information from concerned citizens about suspected narcotic activity at this residence. The Buchanan Police Department then contacted the Berrien County Sheriff Department’s Narcotics Unit with its concerns, as this residence was located in Buchanan Township.

At the time of the search warrant execution, the officers located Britton and two other adult subjects inside of the residence.

During a search of the residence, the officers located and seized approximately $500 worth of heroin, a small amount of cocaine and other evidence of illegal narcotic trafficking.

Upon completion of this search warrant execution, Britton was arrested and transported to the Berrien County Jail. While being booked into the Berrien County Jail, deputies located and seized a small amount of heroin from the body cavity of Britton, which he was trying to smuggle into the jail.

Britton was lodged at the Berrien County Jail on his respective charges pending his arraignment in the Berrien County Trial Courts.

The other two adult subjects were released with no criminal charges being pursued against them.
