Edwardsburg sophomore Aubrey Ritchey defended her home course with a win at the Dowagiac Rock-n-Run Thursday.

Ritchey finished 11 seconds better than runner-up Katie McLain of Kalamazoo Christian.

Her finished helped the Eddies earn a third place overall finish in the girls race.

St. Joseph won both the girls and boys events. The Bears edged Battle Creek Lakeview for the girls title 42-48.

The Eddies finished with 96 points. Niles ended up eighth with 219 points and host Dowagiac 10th with 270 points.

Ritchey, who ran a time of 19:18, said that her and McLain, along with St. Joseph’s Jessie Armstrong, ran together for a while before Armstrong started drifting back.

McLain took the lead up until the mile and a half mark and then Ritchey made her move.

“I caught her and then I took the lead the rest of the race,” Ritchey said. “I thought I will just stay with them and then take off at the end. But then I was like I’ll just start pulling away now so I don’t have to worry about it later.”

Niles’ top finisher was Bridgett Carpenter, who was 30th in 22:00.

Holly Luth led Dowagiac with a 33rd place finish and a time of 22:05.
