Firefighters extinguish the smoky remains of a home on Creek Haven east of Edwardsburg.

EDWARDSBURG — Four departments battled a fire Tuesday afternoon which heavily damaged a home north of U.S. 12 and east of Four Lakes Country Club in Adamsville.

The home sits on unpaved Creek Haven, a lane which forms the top of a sort of triangle with Christiana Creek Drive and Christiana Lake Road.

“It was fully engulfed when it was called in” about 4:15 p.m., Edwardsburg Fire Chief Bruce Stack said.

Neighbors rescued two dogs from the inferno, but an African grey parrot perished.

Stack said he would contact a state police fire investigator to determine the cause.

Three Indiana departments, Clay, Cleveland Township and Porter, assisted Edwardsburg Fire Department.

Tankers hauled water from the village.

Firefighters mopped up as darkness fell.
