Upton, O’Brien to debate

Mike O’Brien, of Douglas, candidate for Congress in Michigan’s 6th Congressional District, will face his opponent, incumbent Fred Upton, of St. Joseph, in two public debates before Election Day.

The candidates will face each other Oct. 8 in a debate co-sponsored by The Kalamazoo Gazette/MLive and Western Michigan University, and again Oct. 23 in a debate sponsored by the League of Women Voters in Buchanan.

The debate Oct. 8 is open to the press; the function held Oct. 23 will be broadcast by WSJM-TV.

The debate Oct. 8 will be held at Knauss Hall at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo from 7 to 8 p.m. Local press outlets are invited to attend.

The second debate of the general election will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Cook Plant Buchanan Office Building (the former Clark Equipment Administrative Building), located at 500 Circle Drive in Buchanan.
