John Edwin Stewart, 88, passed away May 24, 2012, at the Blake Medical Center in Bradenton, Fla., and his loving wife of 63 years, Dorothy M. Stewart, 82, passed away Sept. 11, 2012, at the South Bay Hospital in Sun City Center, Fla.

John and Dorothy were both of Bradenton, Fla., and Niles.

John was born  Sept. 21, 1923, in Gleason, Tenn., to the late Clyde and Somora (Webb) Stewart.

Dorothy was born Feb. 21, 1930, in McKenzie, Tenn., to the late William Howard and Lola (Phillips) Stubblefield.

John served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Following his military service, he worked as a millwright welder for the Bendix Corp. in Michigan, from which he retired from, and Dorothy was a homemaker.

John and Dorothy were winter residents of Manatee County, Fla., for more than 25 years, coming from Niles.

They were members of  Huntley Baptist Church in Niles and the First Baptist Church of Bradenton. John was also a member of the American Legion Post 26 in Niles.

They are survived by their loving son, Keith, and his wife, Shirley, of Bradenton; three grandchildren, Brandie Stewart, Jimmy and his wife, Jackie Hattaway, and Kelly Rae and her husband, Michael Schue, all of Bradenton; six great-grandchildren, Austin and McKenna Schue, Dalton and Hunter Hattaway, Amanda and Tyler Tuttle all of Bradenton.

John is also survived by his two brothers, Joe Stewart and his wife, Peggy, of Gleason, Tenn., and Tommy Stewart of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and three sisters, Barbara Wright and her husband, Marcus, Linda Lenox, Sue and her husband, Marvin Fuller, all of Niles.

Dorothy is further survived by her two brothers, William Terry Stubblefield and Joe Stubblefield, and his wife, Marlene, all of Lansing, and a host of many friends, both in Michigan and Florida.

The family will receive friends at a joint visitation for both John and Dorothy from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, with a joint funeral service to follow at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, 1015 14th St. W, Bradenton, Fla. Further services will be held in Gleason, Tenn., under the direction of Williams Funeral Home, where a joint funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church with committal services following at the Beech Springs Cemetery in Gleason.
