Late first half surge helps Huskies top Vikings

PORTAGE – With 3:12 remaining in the first half, visiting Niles trailed Portage Northern 21-14. What transpired over the final three minutes led the Huskies to a 55-22 Big 16 Conference West Division victory.
Leading by only a touchdown following Niles’ Ra’Quon Glenn’s 20 yard touchdown reception from Cole Clemens, Portage Northern scored three times to put the game away.
Tyler Cummings scored on a 45-yard run, Preston Simon on a 2-yard run and Nick Keizer on a 40-yard pass from Jon Pincus to make it 41-14 at halftime.
The onslaught continued in the third quarter as the Huskies capped their 35-0 run when Alec Blue recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for a score and Pincus scored his fourth touchdown of the night on a 10-yard run.
Pincus opened the scoring with a 29-yard run and made it 14-0 after one quarter with a 19-yard run.
The Vikings got their other touchdown of the first half on a 3-yard run by Anthony Bice. Warren Smith capped the evening’s scoring with a 1-yard run in the final quarter.
Pincus finished the night with 124 yards on eight carries and was 4-of-6 for 61 yards passing.
Preston Simon added 98 yards on 13 carries.
Clemens was 18-of-37 for 246 yards for the Vikings, six of which went to Jesse Jordan, who finished with 126 receiving yards.
Smith had 40 yards on six carries for the Vikings.
