THREE RIVERS — The Dowagiac soccer team got three first half goals from Jorge Ruiz and then held on for a 4-3 Wolverine Conference West Division victory Wednesday.

Ruiz scored in the third, sixth and 33rd minutes to stake the Chieftains to a 3-1 halftime lead.

Three Rivers’ Adam Nottoli scored in the fourth minute to momentarily tie the match at 1-1.

Tony Solis extended Dowagiac’s lead to 4-1 in the 58th minute with what turned out to be the winning goal.

Three Rivers closed the gap to 4-3 with goals by Aaron Mathews in the 63rd minute and Nottoli in the 76th minute.

Dowagiac outshot Three Rivers 13-6 in the match.
