William Crandell: Time for a change

Fred Upton has been our representative for the past 26 years, and I think it is time for a change.

As one of the leading members of the current filibustering Congress, he has proven he is more concerned with sabotaging the president than looking for solutions to the tribulations our nation currently face.

This Congress has voted 33 times to repeal the Affordable Care Act with no regard for the fact so many Americans desperately need health care, nor have they made an effort to seek a compromise with Democrats to pass a jobs bill.

It is very clear Fred Upton is unwilling to put partisan politics above what is in the best interest of his constituents.

As the Energy Committee chairman, Upton has also voted to lower EPA regulations on emissions that will lead to the extensive pollution of the air we breathe. He has stated publicly he does not believe we are adding to global warming, and has ignored evidence we are contributing to the destruction of our planet.

Upton has also taken large campaign contributions from environmental violators such as Koch Brothers industries, and has betrayed the trust of the American people.

Through these actions, Fred Upton has proven he cares more about the interests of his corporate campaign contributors than doing the right thing for our country.

It is time for a change in Washington, and it’s time we vote someone into office that will care about the needs of the people of southwest Michigan.

His opponent, Mike O’Brien, has a proven record of leadership and innovation. He intends to be a voice of the people and not of special interests. O’Brien has also stated that he would be willing to work with all members of Congress to rebuild this country. That is the type of vision and leadership America needs.

Vote for O’Brien and invest in our future.
