A female driver sustained minor injuries when her vehicle hit a tree on North Third Street in Niles Tuesday morning.

The one-vehicle accident occurred around 9:30 a.m. just south of the intersection of North Third and Cass streets on the north side of the city.

Mike Stanton, a Niles police officer, said it is unknown why the elderly woman left the road and struck a tree on the west side of the road. Stanton said the woman was transported to Lakeland Hospital. The vehicle came to a rest on the top of a steep hill.
