Chieftain cross country team improves times at MSU

EAST LANSING — The Dowagiac boys and girls cross country teams finished 31st and 32nd respectively at the Michigan State Invitational Friday.

Ben Thompson led the boys team with a 161st place finish and a time of 20:15. Dean Klann was 172nd with a time of 20:25 and Sean Thompson 182nd with a time of 20:56.

DeYonte Sullivan was 194th (21:47) and Tony Kidman 207th (25:24).

Christina Preston finished 149th in the girls race to pace Dowagiac with a time of 23:33. Holly Luth was 172nd with a time of 24:21.

Cali Rank finished 209th (26:36), Jennifer Schaus 211th (26:46) and Katie Murphy 212th (26:57).

“It was a very positive day as eight of our 10 runners had their best time of the season,” Dowagiac coach Ken Jordan said.

Dowagiac will host Paw Paw and Coloma Tuesday for a Wolverine Conference triangular at 4:30 p.m.

 

Collegiate race

Former Dowagiac standout Chris Gantt finished as Lansing Community College’s No. 3 runner at the MSU Invitational Friday.

Gantt ran a time of 27:38.
