Vikings hold on for third win of season

KALAMAZOO – A pair of third quarter touchdowns aided visiting Niles in its 14-6 win over Kalamazoo Central Friday.

Trailing 6-0 at halftime after the Maroon Giants’ Rasaun Brown recovered a snap that went over the punter’s head in the end zone; Niles (3-1, 1-1 West) scored twice in the third quarter and then held on for the victory.

Anthoney Bice scored on a 29-yard run, while Cole Clemens connected with running back Fritzel Findeisen on a 37-yard touchdown. Ryan Casey converted on both kicks to cap the scoring for Niles.

The Vikings, who fumbled five times and lost four of them, were 11-of-24 for 127 yards through the air. Niles rushed for just 89 yards on 29 attempts. Bice finished with 35 yards on six attempts and Findeisen 36 yards on 10 rushes.

Defensively, the Vikings forced three Maroon Giant turnovers, two fumbles and an interception. Kalamazoo Central, which finished with only 166 yards in total offense, also hurt itself with 120 yards in penalties.

Findeisen, Kale Pollard and Sean Craig all had eight tackles.

The lone bright spot for the Maroon Giants was Kenyon Smith, who rushed for 130 yards on 26 carries.
