Charles Abshagen Sr., 97, of Onaway and formerly of Decatur, passed Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, in Tendercare in Rogers City.

Charles was born April 17, 1915, in Decatur, the son of Otto and Joanna (Houseman) Abshagen. He was formerly employed by Dowagiac Steel Furnace and Jessup Door Co. of Dowagiac.

He married Eunice Hall on April 6, 1944, in Decatur, and she survives.

Also surviving are a son, Charles (Sharon) Abshagen Jr., of Onaway; three grandchildren, Douglas (Kazuna) Abshagen and their children, Shealyn and Benjamin, Danica (Jeff) Nowak and their children, Kyler and Allie, Denise (Dan) Kudra and their children, Ava, Ellie and Ethan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Christine Waaso; and four brothers, Henry, Robert, Richard and Harold Abshagen.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Newell Funeral Home in Decatur with Pastor Jerry Lingle officiating. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Decatur. Friends may call after noon Saturday.
