Dowagiac struggles to ninth place finish

VICKSBURG — After posting its best finish of the season, the Dowagiac golf team struggled to a ninth place finish at the Wolverine Conference Jamboree Wednesday.

The Chieftains shot 242 as a team at Angels Crossing in Vicksburg. They actually tied with South Haven for the eighth spot, but the Rams held the fifth-man tiebreaker.

Three Rivers won the jamboree with a team total of 203. Otsego was second at 204 and Plainwell third at 204. Vicksburg and Allegan rounded out the top five with scores of 213 and 217 respectively.

Hanley Truhn of Vicksburg was the medalist as she shot 41 on her home course.

Dowagiac was led by first-year golfer Kristyn Turner’s 47. It was a career best for Turner for the second day in a row.

Kelsey Smith finished with a 59, Maggie Cripe a 65 and Haley Smith a 71.
