ELKHART, Ind. — The Niles girls cross country team defeated host Elkhart Christian 26-29 Tuesday.

The Vikings were defeated by Sturgis 24-31.

In the boys race, Niles lost to Elkhart Christian 25-30 and to Sturgis 15-50.

Sturgis’ Peyton Boughton was the overall winner in the girls race with a time of 19:36. Niles’ Bridgett Carpenter was fourth with a time of 22:46 and Abby Gaines fifth with a time of 23:38.

Libby Hein also earned a top 10 finish as she was eighth with a time of 24:03.

Niles’ Gaberial Trujillo was the top finisher in the boys race as he ran a time of 18:25 to place sixth.
