KALAMAZOO — The Niles tennis team swept the doubles flights at the Kalamazoo Loy Norrix Invitational to claim the championship Saturday.
The host Knights swept the singles flights, which left Loy Norrix and the Vikings tied. The tiebreaker was the team that lost the fewest games. Niles lost 74 games and Loy Norrix 78.
Niles was able to pull out the victory thanks to the efforts of the No. 2 doubles team of Gevanta Nichols and Brent McGowan.
“They were the last match of the day and they could not give away more than five games,” Niles coach Jill Weber said. “They only gave up one sealing the win.”
Also winning championships for the Vikings were Alec Brown and Matt Miller, Nick Zeigert and Nick Bowkowski and Matt Lee and Derek Brown.
