Michigan State Police troopers at the Niles post are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. Sunday on Yankee Street near Almaugus in Cass County.

The Niles Police Department located a vehicle that has been reported stolen Sunday morning and pursuit ensued. The stolen vehicle crashed a short time after the pursuit was initiated. The driver, an unidentified female, was pronounced dead at the scene. There was no contact between police vehicles and the suspect’s vehicle.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Niles City Police Department, Cass County Sheriff’s Department, Berrien County Sheriff’s Department and Howard Township Fire Department.

Identification of the driver has not been made, nor has family been notified. The crash remains under investigation.
