Leona Y. White, 89, of St. Joseph, died at Caretel Inns on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012.

Arrangements have been entrusted with Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home of St. Joseph.

Leona was born Dec. 15, 1922, in Custer, Okla., to Clyde and Evylyn (Gentry) Yount. She lived in Niles for many years. Leona and her husband Leonard owned and operated White’s Lanes in Niles from 1957 to 2005. She was also a member, for 51 years, of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Niles, where she was a Sunday school teacher. Most recently, she attended services at the St. Joseph First United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the St. Joseph First United Methodist Church for children’s programs.

Leona is survived by her son, Arnie (Amy) White, of St. Joseph; four grandchildren, Kelly, Alex, Lyndsay and Lucas; a sister, Clydene Grant, of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents-Clyde and Evylyn; her husband Leonard; a son, Lance; and several brothers and sisters.

A Celebration of Life Service will take place 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at the

St. Joseph First United Methodist Church, 3003 Leco Ct., St. Joseph, with the Rev. Harris Hoekwater officiating. Burial will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles.
