Lake Michigan Catholic sophomore Daniel McEachen had a first half hat trick as the visiting Lakers defeated Brandywine 9-1 in non-league soccer Tuesday.

Lake Michigan led 7-0 at halftime and the Bobcats were fortunate to even get a shot to play part of the final 40 minutes.

With the eight-goal mercy rule well within their reach, the Lakers had four headers off corners just miss their make and two other shots go off the goal post in the opening half.

McEachen scored goals in the ninth and 14th minutes to set the tone for the match. His third and final goal came in the 32nd minute and made it 6-0 in favor of the Lakers.

The Bobcats looked a little sluggish in the opening half, but came out of halftime with a rush of energy, which lasted for the first 10 minutes.

It resulted in the only goal of the night for Brandywine.

Alex Ulrickson beat the Lakers’ defense down the right side and then got one of only six Bobcats shots on keeper Stephen Nickel in the back of the net in the 68th minute.

“They have such great team speed and they are a really good team,” Brandywine coach Even Winkler said. “I just think our effort wasn’t their the first half they way it was the first 10 minutes of the second half.

“We didn’t play as well defensively. We were a little cautious. We might have stayed in front of them, but we left them open to still shoot the ball. We needed to be closer in order to block the ball or at least put pressure on them.”

The Lakers finished with a 22-6 advantage in shots on goal.

Brandywine goalkeeper Seth Lane was credited with 13 saves. Nickel had five saves for Lake Michigan.
