SOUTH HAVEN — The race for the Wolverine Conference golf championship got a whole lot tighter Monday morning.

Otsego, Plainwell and Allegan all finished in front of Three Rivers at the South Haven Jamboree held at Hawkshead.

The Wildcats had won the first two jamborees and held a four-point lead over those three teams heading into Monday’s event.

Otsego shot 199 to claim first place, while Plainwell shot 202 and Allegan 210. Three Rivers finished fourth with a 215 and had its lead dwindle to just one point over Otsego.

Plainwell is now two points back and Allegan just three headed into a doubleheader Wednesday hosted first by Allegan and then by Otsego.

Vicksburg finished fourth (220), Comstock fifth (220) and Dowagiac sixth (230). Paw Paw and host South Haven rounded out the field.

Plainwell’s Darby Wagner picked up another medalist honor as she shot 44 to edge Three Rivers’ Holly Hines by a stroke.

Haley Smith shot 53 and Maggie Cripe 57 for the Chieftains, who also got a 55 from Kristyn Turner and a 64 from Kelsey Smith.

Turner improved her score by eight strokes, while Kelsey Smith improved by seven strokes.
