NOTRE DAME — Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly confirmed Wednesday at his noon press conference that cornerback Lo Wood has been lost for the season.

Kelly said Wood sustained an Achilles injury during Monday’s practice while backpedaling and fell without contact.

Wood was expected to be a starter for the Fighting Irish when they open the season against Navy in Dublin, Ireland Sept. 1.

The loss of Wood leaves Notre Dame with just five cornerbacks.

Kelly said that sophomores Josh Atkinson and Jalen Brown, along with freshman KeiVarae Russell could be a replacement for Wood. Sophomore Cam McDaniel has been working out on both sides of the football, but could also see time at cornerback.

Kelly also said Wednesday that he has not made a decision on a starting quarterback and that both Everett Golson and Andrew Hendrix will continue to share snaps.
