SOUTH BEND — For the second straight day, Sara Hurwitch of Union, Ky. shot 70 at the inaugural Four Winds Invitational at Blackthorn Golf Club.

Hurwitch’s two-day total of 140 is three shots better than six other golfers that are at 143.

“Just hit a lot of shots close,” Hurwitch said of her second round. “The short game has helped out a lot this week too. I probably made a 20-footer on No. 14. But other than that, just getting it close and grinding.”

Tied for second place are Jenny Suh (Fairfax, Va.), Julia Boland (Tamworth, NSW, Australia), Kristie Smith (Perth, Australia), Amy Eneroth (Spokane, Wash.) Birdie Kim (Seoul, South Korea) and Olivia Jordan-Higgins (Jersey, Channel Islands, UK).

Two other golfers, Kendall Dye (Edmond, Okla.) and Mi Hyang Lee (Incheon, South Korea) are another shot back at 144.

After opening the second round with a bogey and dropping a shot out of the lead, Hurwitch was steady until the back nine where she dropped two more strokes on No. 12 and No. 15.

“The first hole bogey, definitely a little nerves this morning being in the lead group,” the third-year pro said. “But I started to relax once I made that birdie on No. 3 and kind of found my rhythm again. I definitely had some back and forth bogey-birdie-bogey, but overall stayed confident and stayed patient.”

The top 70 players made the cut for Sunday’s final round, which began at 7:45 a.m.

The final pairing of Hurwitch, Jordan-Higgins and Suh are scheduled to tee off at 11:45 a.m.
