Geneva P. Haven Lane, 94, of Edwardsburg, passed to her rest Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at Cass County Medical Care Facility, Cassopolis, after a brief illness.

She was born Sept. 23, 1917, in Colon, Mich., the daughter of Ford and Lena (Bower) Wattles.

Geneva moved to Edwardsburg many years ago, and married in 1937 to Jack Haven. Geneva and Jack owned Haven’s Drug Store in “downtown” Edwardsburg. Jack was the chief of the Edwardsburg Fire Department. Jack passed away in 1956, and shortly after, the drugstore closed. Geneva pursued her interest in working in the business world, and worked for J.C. Penney Co. of South Bend. She was the head fashion buyer for the women’s department until her retirement.

She was a member of the Edwardsburg Golden Agers and the Cass County Republican Women’s Club.

In 1972, Geneva married Harry Lane; he passed away in 1976.

Surviving Geneva are her children, Larry (Margrate) Haven of San Antonio, Texas, and Donna (Robert) Kruse of Edwardsburg. She leaves five grandchildren: Lawrence Haven, Michelle Sams, Tracy Haven, Jacqui Ressler and Scott (Leslie) Kruse. There are 10 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Also, the family acknowledges and appreciates the kindness given in care from Linda Obanion, her caregiver.

Family who have passed are her parents; a son, Kenny Haven, in 1949; her husband, Jack Haven; husband, Harry Lane; and two siblings, Alton Wattles and Virginia Piasecki.

Family and friends may gather at Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 W. Main St. (U.S. Highway 12), Edwardsburg, on Thursday, Aug. 9, from 5 to 8 p.m. The Service of Remembrance will be Friday, Aug. 10, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, where all may gather for one hour before services. Officiating will be the Rev. Jeff Reese, pastor of Hope United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Edwardsburg Cemetery.
