Robert Henry Fisette, 82, of Edwardsburg, passed to his rest Sunday, July 22, 2012, at his home after an illness.
He was born Sept. 29, 1929, in Chicago, the son of Henry J. and Margaret Ann (Barr) Fisette.
Bob retired from Bendix in South Bend. This was his secondary employment. Bob’s life centered around his military career. He served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War, having a total service of 22 years, five months and 22 days. He received the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Devise, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm and Frame. He retired as first lieutenant.
Bob lived in the Edwardsburg area before his time in the Marines and returned to Edwardsburg in 1974.
He was active in veterans’ affairs, being a member of the Edwardsburg VFW as post quartermaster; the Edwardsburg American Legion; the Marine Corps League; the Marine Corps Mustangs; and the Disabled American Veterans.
Bob was married Sept. 30, 1950, in South Bend to Mary Jane Olejniczak, who survives with their children, Barbara Ann Cartwright, of Cape Corteret, N.C.; John Henry Fisette, of Edwardsburg, Randy (Becky) Fisette, of Edwardsburg; Damon Pierre (Pam) Fisette, of Edwardsburg; and Peggy Fisette, of Edwardsburg. There are 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He has a sister, Rose Kline, of Edwardsburg, and a brother, Joseph Fisette, of South Bend.
Family who have passed included his parents; brothers, George and James Fisette; and a sister, Margaret Ann Tutorow.
Friends and family may gather Friday, July 27, from 11 a.m. to noon at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 24832 U.S. Highway 12 East, Edwardsburg, where the Mass of Resurrection will be at noon. Officiating will be Father Joe McCormick, pastor.
Burial will follow in Adamsville Cemetery with full military rites given by the U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard to remember the time served by Bob for his country.
Memorials may be given to Borgess Visiting Nurses and Hospice, 348 N. Burdick St., Kalamazoo, MI 49007.
