Gerald D. “Jerry” Croll, 63, of Cassopolis, died Thursday, July 19, 2012, in Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital, Dowagiac.

He was born May 2, 1949, in Gary, Ind., to Robert P. and Jean I. (Curry) Croll.  His father preceded him in death.

Jerry graduated from Indiana State University, Terre Haute, and earned a master’s degree from Missouri State University. He taught a total of 25 years in high schools in Munster and Michigan City, Indi. He had a very successful coaching career for more than 16 years at Elston High School in Michigan City.  His boys’ swim team finished in the top 10 many times and included six individual state champions and several high school All-Americans.
Jerry was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed watching golf rather than playing it. He enjoyed being with his fiancee, being on his boat and being on the lake.
Jerry will be greatly missed by family and friends.
He is survived by his fiancee, Sherry Proctor, of Cassopolis; mother, Jean I. (Curry) Croll, of Kokomo, Ind.; one sister, Carol (Jon) Jepsen, of Hendersonville, Tenn.; two brothers, Robert T. (Cynthia) Croll, of Kokomo, Ind., and twin brother, Jack A. Croll, of Kokomo; several nieces and nephews and his many cats.
Family and friends gathered from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday, July 23, in Connelly Chapel, Wagner Family Funerals, 202 N. Broadway St., Cassopolis, and then processed to Little Fish Lake Cemetery, Volinia Township, where Jerry was laid to rest beside the lake that he loved, following the 2 p.m. graveside service with Pastor C. L. Whitt, M.D., assistant pastor of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Niles, officiating.
