Elizabeth Peterson, 90, of South Third Street, Niles, died at 5:53 p.m. Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Lakeland Community Hospital, Niles, following a brief illness.

She was born Dec. 27, 1921, in Chicago to Martin and Pauline Skopec. She moved to this area during her childhood.

Elizabeth was an avid gardener. She liked to play golf and was a member of Orchard Hills Country Club for many years. She enjoyed and helped collect Niles history.

She married Ralph L. Peterson on April 3, 1959, in Niles. He died Sept. 22, 2011.

She was also preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Fowler, of Chadds Ford, Pa., Kathy (Jerry) Petersen, of Portage, and Susan K. Brown, of Niles; son, David W. Peterson, of Lawton, Okla.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 30, at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with the Rev. Edward H. Slate, of Buchanan Faith United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be a Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles. Friends may call beginning one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fernwood Botanical Gardens or hospice center of the donor’s choice.
