August at Cass District Library

August brings many family-oriented events at the Cass District Library.
The Main Library is having Math Scoops, an ice cream math club families can join. Each person will receive a packet of math activities appropriate for their age or grade level to complete at their leisure. All packets must be returned to the Main Library by Aug. 20 to be graded. Participants that receive 80 percent or better on their packet will be eligible to attend an ice cream party later in August. The party will have games, food and ice cream.
The Annual Book Sale will be taking place at the Main Library in August, too. This large book sale runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 1-3. There is a large selection to choose from at good prices. Dollar-per-bag day is Aug. 3. Bring cash, as no checks will be accepted.
“Grow to Be Great” Children’s Concert is an interactive musical program performed by Gary Brandt and Jackie Davidson. The show will be 2 p.m. Aug. 7, at the Edwardsburg Branch. The show features stories, songs, movement, Native American sign language and more. The concert is free and open to the public. The Edwardsburg Branch is located at 26745 Church St. in Edwardsburg.
Brandt and Davidson will be performing at the Main Library at 7 p.m. Aug. 7. They will be performing “Singing the Good Old Songs Again,” a music concert that combines classic and original folk songs into an entertaining show. The program is free and open to the public. The Main Library is located at 319 M-62 North in Cassopolis.
Davidson is a former member of the Grammy Award-winning “The New Christy Minstrels.” Brandt is a popular folklorist, singer and songwriter. The duo has been performing across the country together since 2010.
