A 61-year-old Granger motorcyclist is dead after an accident Sunday on U.S. Highway 12 and Leet Road in Milton Township in Cass County.

Tim McCavit was heading east on U.S. 12 at around 10:22 a.m. when a Chevrolet Corsica westbound on U.S. 12 driven by Donavan Avance, 25, of Elkhart, attempted to pass a vehicle and got into the path of McCavit.

McCavit swerved to the right but was unable to get out of the path of Avance’s vehicle.

McCavit was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Michigan State Police accident report.

Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor. The accident remains under investigation.

Assisting the Michigan State Police was Edwardsburg Police, Cass County Sheriff’s Department, Edwardsburg Ambulance and Edwardsburg Fire.
