David Lee Gordy Sr., 68, of Niles passed away at home Thursday, July 12, 2012.
David was born Oct. 2, 1943, to the late Leland and Edna (Williams) Gordy in South Bend. He was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Pavlovic on Feb. 3, 1962. Together, they had three children.
David worked as a bricklayer with his stepfather John for many years. He lived a big part of his life in Illinois, and in the late ‘60s, he moved his family to Michigan. He started his own business, DG Enterprises, which included general contracting, bricklaying, masonry work, tile and remodeling. He enjoyed playing chess, cards, dice and was an avid pool player. On Dec. 10, 1999, David wed Pamela.
David is survived by his children, Tamera “Tammy” (Dan) Williams, of Dowagiac, Michelle (James) Lawson, of Dowagiac, David (Alysia) Gordy Jr., of Coloma; 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren with two on the way; his wife, Pamela (Parrish) Gordy; and a half-sister, the Rev. Lee Chiaramonte, of Kansas.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Edna Kalmus; father, Leland Gordy; stepfather, John Kalmus; and the mother of his children, Barbara Jean Woollet.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 19, at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services with a time of visitation one hour prior. Pastor Michael Fields from Bright Star Tabernacle in Eau Claire will be officiating.
Memorial donations may be made in David’s name to his children in care of Tamera Williams at 521 E. Main St. Niles, MI 49120, or St. Jude’s Hospital, which provided his pacemaker and defibrillator.
