Olar Allen, 97, of Vandalia, died Sunday, July 8, 2012, in her residence surrounded by her family.

She was born Dec. 11, 1914 in Elberton, Ga., to Frank and Viola Heard. She married Raymond McIntosh in Elberton, Ga. He preceded her in death. She later married Leo R. Allen. He also preceded her in death. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded by her parents; one grandson, Derek K. Sykes; three sisters, Elizabeth Cannon, Annie Burton and Eula Mae Willis.

Olar would always host family dinners for the holidays. She enjoyed fishing. She loved to sing.

Olar will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Georgia and Leon Yarborough, of Vandalia; two granddaughters, Vickie L. Sykes, of Vandalia, Donnette Sykes, of Chicago; two sisters, Nell Ward, of Cassopolis, Gladys Jones, of Chicago; godson and wife, Curtis and Demetria Kelly, of South Bend; adoptive daughter and husband, Stella and Lucius McIntosh Peterson, of Vandalia; a host of nieces and nephews, including niece, Daisy Hervey, of Vandalia; and best friend, Roberta Gayles, of Chicago.

Family and friends will gather Thursday, July 1, from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. in Chain Lake Missionary Baptist Church, 16853 Chain Lake St., Cassopolis, with the Rev. Norman Tubbs, pastor, officiating, followed by a repast at the church. Mrs. Allen will be laid to rest Friday, July 13, in Fairmount Willow Hills Memorial Park, 9100 S. Archer Ave., Willow Springs, Ill., at 11 a.m. CDT. The drive is approximately 2 1/2 hours from Cassopolis.
