City police arrested a Dowagiac woman, 48, after a vehicle pursuit July 4.

Department of Public Safety Director Tom Atkinson reports that officers from Dowagiac Police Department were dispatched to a reckless driver complaint after the vehicle was observed driving on the sidewalk on South Front Street.

Officers saw the 1991 Mitsubishi SUV driving at a high rate of speed on South Front, where it disregarded a stop sign.

A Dowagiac police officer attempted to make a traffic stop on the Mitsubishi, but it failed to stop, starting the pursuit.

Police chased the Mitsubishi south of Dowagiac before it stopped on M-51 near Mission Hills Cemetery.

The driver was taken into custody and arrested for marijuana possession as well as for fleeing and eluding.

She was lodged at Cass County Jail in Cassopolis.

The report will be forwarded to the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
