Calligraphy is more than just writing in fancy lettering.

It is a recognized art form that has served South Bend’s Anne Binder well.

Binder, a nationally known calligrapher, paper maker, teacher and book artist will lead the Niles Art Association’s monthly meeting beginning at 7 p.m. today at the Niles District Library, 620 E. Main St.

“It will be a hands-on program,” said Sandy Whitmyer, Niles Art Association president. “She will teach us calligraphy and let us practice.”

The program is free and open to both members and non-members of the Niles Art Association. The library is located at 620 E. Main St.

Following the calligraphy program, the Niles Art Association will hold its monthly business meeting.

A show-and-tell session will follow the business meeting. Whitmyer said the entire program should last about two hours.

Participants are encouraged to bring any form of art to talk about during show and tell.
