Niles Utilities Department, in partnership with the Energy Smart Program, offered through Michigan Public Power Agency, is providing eligible residents with information, services, and financial incentives to assist with the installation of energy-efficient upgrades in their homes.

With the summer season just beginning and as the temperature continues to rise, be sure to select high-efficiency equipment when updating your cooling systems. Niles Utilities Department is offering incentives up to $150 per air conditioning unit for those that qualify for updates and replacements.

The following equipment list is eligible for rebates through the program:

Central air conditioning units (15-17 SEER)

Energy Star room air conditioners

Energy Star dehumidifiers

High efficiency hot water heaters

Gas furnaces with ECM motors

Intelligent surge protectors

Energy Star refrigerators

Energy Star computers

High efficiency clothes dryers

Programmable thermostats

Rebates are first come, first served. To find out more and obtain an incentive application, visit mienergysmart.com and select “Niles” in the drop-down menu. Locate the residential application on the Niles page and click to download it to a computer. Complete the application within 30 days of completing the furnace or central AC system installation or purchasing the Energy Star-qualified equipment. Follow the submittal instructions on the application. Or call (877) NRG-SAV1 (674-7281).
