Man arrested for fatally stabbing sister

A 59-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly fatally stabbing his sister in Mason Township, Cass County, on Friday afternoon.

Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. report that his department is investigating a homicide that occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. Friday in the 19000 block of U.S. Highway 12 in Mason Township.

Deputies responded to a stabbing call and found the victim, Martha Sexton, 19643 U.S. 12, had been fatally stabbed.

Investigation led to a person of interest who was last known at the scene. A search of the area was conducted and later it was discovered that the subject was located in Elkhart.

The subject, Edward Hensley, 59, has been identified as the suspect in the stabbing of the victim. The victim and the suspect are sister and brother and had been living at the U.S. 12 address for approximately 10 days.

He has been charged with open murder and has been arrested by Elkhart City Police. He will be awaiting extradition to Cass County on the charges.

Assisting the sheriff’s office were Cass County Drug Enforcement Team, Ontwa Township-Edwardsburg Police, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Michigan State Police and the Porter Township Fire and Ambulance Department.
