Here’s some more on downtown tunnels from Irv Phillipson:

Some of my fondest memories of DeVee Hunsberger were the discussions of Dowagiac during his boyhood years.

DeVee remembered the Round Oak band shell on the corner of Front and Commercial. He told of a tunnel that the band would use from the manufacturing site under the tracks to the park that stretched from Commercial to Park Place.

I worked for Don Deitze during the summers while attending college.

Don told me about the remodeling of the building now occupied by 5/3 bank.

When they were excavating for the new vault they came across a tunnel that ran toward the tracks. The tunnel had been sealed with iron bars.

I would assume that the construction of Depot Drive would have encountered some of the tunnel remnants.
