Judith Ruelle, 71, of Niles, died at 1:25 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Hospice House in South Bend, Ind., following a brief illness.

She was born May 22, 1941, in Battle Creek, to Clifton and Ruth (Bower) Shultz. She graduated from Lakeview High School in Battle Creek. She completed the Registered Nurse program at Bronson Hospital School of Nursing.

Judith lived in Niles since 1968 and has served as a registered nurse in the office of the late Dr. Strayer and Dr. Bhisitkul. She also served at the former Visitor’s Hospital in Buchanan, the former Patawing Hospital (now Lakeland) and Silverbrook Manor Nursing Home.

She enjoyed shopping and reading science fiction. Her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren, and hosting parties and holidays for her family.

On July 11, 1964, she married Arnold J. Ruelle in Battle Creek, who survives. Also surviving are their children, Scott (Michael) Ruelle, of Buchanan, Robyn (Brian) Singleton, of Cincinatti, Ohio, and Michael (Julie) Ruelle, of Niles; grandchildren, Jordan and Jacob Ruelle, Zachary Singleton and Riley and Jensen Ruelle; and several nieces and nephews.

Judith was preceded in death by her parents, and by her sister, Susan Salisbury, who died Jan. 15, 2006.

The funeral service for Judith will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, at the Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with Deacon Roger Gregorski of Saint Mary Catholic Church, in Niles, officiating. Committal will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Niles.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
