“Dream Big” this summer with the Cass District Library by participating in the Summer Reading Club. Registration for the club begins Saturday at all Cass District libraries.
The club is open to all ages with reading incentives and drawings taking place throughout the summer. The library will be offering many free family programs throughout the summer. There will be craft days, where kids can create their own tie-dye pillowcases, Pajamarama Parties, story hours, live animal programs, puppet shows and much more.
• “Animals of the Rainforest,” featuring live animals, will be presented at 2 p.m. June 19 at the Mason/Union Branch. This exotic presentation will focus on the importance of preserving the rainforest environment and its diverse inhabitants.
The Mason/Union Branch is located at 17049 U.S. Highway 12 in Edwardsburg.
• “The Pajama Jam Comedy Show,” presented by Joel Tacey, will tickle your funny bone at 10:30 a.m. June 25 at the Edwardsburg Branch. Featuring comedy, magic, juggling and big surprises, this interactive show brings classic and creative children’s books to life. While optional, everyone is encouraged to wear pajamas or bring their favorite stuffed animal to the show.
The Edwardsburg Branch is located at 26745 Church St. in Edwardsburg.
• “Nightmares Up Close” will be at the Howard Branch at 1 p.m. June 25. This program is designed for teens and is recommended for ages 10 and older. Explore facts and myths surrounding eight real-world tales, while examining a hands-on collection of authentic artifacts. Teens will be drawn in by true stories surrounding the Titanic, Jack the Ripper, African shrunken heads and more. Each tale ends with a mysterious, surprising or spine-tingling twist.
The Howard Branch is located at 2341 Yankee St., in Niles.
• The Main Library will be featuring a Starlab Planetarium on June 28. Three shows will be presented in this amazing portable star-filled planetarium. The 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. shows will be “Space, the Final Frontier,” and the 10 a.m. show will be “Men, Myths and Monsters of the Skies.” Space is limited inside the planetarium; tickets for each show will be handed out at the library on a first-come first-served basis on the day of the program.
The Main Library is located at 319 M-62 North in Cassopolis.
All of the programs offered this summer are free and open to the public.
